JOB ANNOUNCEMENT:
CITY ATTORNEY
The City Attorney serves as chief legal advisor to the Mayor
and City Council, reports to the Chief Administrative Officer
and provides legal advice on all matters of contract law, labor
and employee relations, intergovernmental/interagency and private
industry relations, land use development, municipal financing,
bond issuance, taxation, and directs litigation activities over
a wide area of municipal business transactions. Represents the
City as legal counsel in administrative proceedings and reviews
before appellate court. This is a Non-Civil Service appointed
position. Urbana residency required within 6 months of employment.
Requires J.D./ L.L.B., 7 years practicing law, 5
years of which you represented a municipal government. Must be
a member in good standing with the Illinois State Bar. Superior
litigation and negotiation skills, effective interpersonal skills,
a wide breadth of legal knowledge applicable to municipal issues,
and the ability to effectively guide external counsel must be
demonstrated. Municipal experience must have been gained in a
community of 25,000 or greater where issues of diversity/equity
of treatment are emphasized and must include labor law in a unionized
environment. Requires demonstrated ability to represent municipal
interests.
Salary: $71,941 - $90,825, plus a comprehensive
management benefit package.
